  • Lake District 2026

I have been to the Lake District four times this year. These journeys were attempts to fill in gaps in my Lakeland experiences which I have always wanted to do but have never managed. They were Jack’s Rake on Pavey Ark, Lord’s Rake on Scafell and a traverse of Kirk Fell in Wasdale. I have now managed all three. It has taken the four trips to do this because, having tried to combine these climbs, I have exhausted myself on the first days and had to give up.

I tried to make these trips light weight as I didn’t want to carry a 12k sack up the scrambles. I didn’t carry a tent, used cold food and water and ate at inns where possible. I bivouacked on two occasions – below Mickledore and on Beck Head.

Here are some images of these trips.
