The majority of the paintings here present the brain with two perceptual pathways - one of pure colour, the other of object recognition. This combination, which is not generally found in the material world, forces the perceptions jump from one to other. I have found that this double take reinforces the emotional response to the image as a whole. It also presents a philosophical view, with the representation of local life surrounded by the unkown and, to my mind, indifferent material world. I see the images as in the tradition of icons - in these cases, secular icons.
The life drawings and some of the commissioned work have their own qualities which I leave you to discover.
